Tillandsia Ionantha Mexican Med Red

$5.00

A small, rosette-forming air plant (2–4 in / 5–10 cm) with narrow, stiff leaves that often blush pink to red at bloom and retain green or silvery bases. Produces a compact central inflorescence with small tubular flowers, prized for vivid color change and compact habit.

Care:

  • Light: Bright, indirect light — east or filtered south/west window. Avoid hot direct midday sun.
  • Water: Soak 20–30 minutes once a week (increase to twice weekly in hot/dry conditions). Shake off excess water and let fully dry within 4 hours. Alternatively, mist 2–3 times weekly between soaks.
  • Humidity & air: Prefers moderate to high humidity (40–70%); good air circulation is essential to prevent rot.
  • Temperature: 50–85°F (10–29°C). Protect from frost.
  • Fertilizer: Weak bromeliad/air-plant fertilizer (diluted to 1/4–1/2 strength) monthly during growth or after watering.
  • Mounting: Place on driftwood, shells, or decorative holders—do not bury in substrate.
  • Signs of stress: Pale, brown, or soft leaves indicate underwatering, sunburn, or rot; floppy leaves may mean too little light.
  • Notes: After flowering it may produce pups; wait until pups are ~1/2 size before separating.
