$40.00

Maranta, commonly known as the Prayer Plant, is a stunning houseplant renowned for its vibrant, decorative leaves. The leaves are typically oval-shaped with unique markings, showcasing deep green colors contrasted by lighter green or reddish veins. One of the most captivating features of the Maranta is its ability to fold its leaves upward at night, resembling hands in prayer, hence its common name. The plant usually grows to about 12 inches tall and prefers a humid environment.

Care & Growing Condition:

  • Light: Maranta thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water the plant when the top inch of soil feels dry. Reduce watering in the winter months.

  • Humidity: This plant enjoys higher humidity levels. Humid conditions can be achieved through misting, using a pebble tray with water, or placing it in a bathroom or kitchen.

  • Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally one formulated for houseplants. A mix with peat moss is beneficial.

  • Fertilization: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every few weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in the fall and winter.

  • Temperature: Maranta prefers temperatures between 65°F to 80°F (18°C to 27°C). Keep it away from cold drafts and extreme temperature changes.

  • Pruning: Regularly remove any dead or yellowing leaves to encourage new growth and maintain the plant's appearance.
