Aeschynanthus radicans, commonly known as the Lipstick Plant, is a tropical epiphytic perennial native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia. It features trailing or climbing stems that can reach up to three feet in length. The leaves are glossy, deep green, and ovate, creating a lush appearance. One of its most striking features is its tubular, vibrant red flowers that emerge from bracts and appear in clusters, resembling lipstick tubes, hence the common name. The Lipstick Plant is an attractive choice for hanging baskets or as a trailing plant in arrangements.

Care & Growing Condition:

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves.

  • Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Reduce watering in the winter months.

  • Humidity: Thrives in high humidity levels (around 60% or higher). Consider misting the leaves or placing a humidifier nearby if the air is dry.

  • Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures between 65°F and 80°F (18°C - 27°C). Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F (10°C).

  • Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in fall and winter.

  • Pruning: Prune to maintain shape and promote bushier growth. Remove any dead or yellowing leaves regularly.

  • Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound, using a well-draining potting mix.
