Striking foliage: heart-shaped, velvety dark green leaves with cream to white variegation and contrasting lighter veins. Grows in a clumping, upright habit. Used as a statement houseplant. Variegated Alocasia 'Frydek' is a highly sought-after Alocasia cultivar with arrow-shaped, velvety green leaves.
Light
- Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct midday sun (can scorch leaves). Some morning or late afternoon sun okay; insufficient light reduces variegation.
Water
- Keep evenly moist but not soggy. Water when the top 1–2 inches (2.5–5 cm) of soil feel dry. Reduce frequency in cooler months. Avoid letting roots sit in water.
Humidity & Temperature
- High humidity preferred (60–80%). Use a humidifier, pebble tray, or group plants. Ideal temp 65–80°F (18–27°C). Protect from drafts and temps below ~60°F (15°C).
Soil & Potting
- Fast-draining, airy mix: aroid mix or equal parts potting soil, orchid bark, and perlite. Repot every 1–2 years or when rootbound; choose a pot with drainage.
Fertilizer
- Balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half-strength every 4–6 weeks during growing season (spring–summer). Hold off or reduce feeding in fall/winter.
