4" Thanksgiving Cactus

$15.00

The Thanksgiving Cactus (Schlumbergera) is a popular houseplant known for its vibrant, tubular flowers that bloom in shades of red, pink, white, or purple during the holiday season. Unlike traditional cacti, this tropical plant features flat, leaf-like segments that give it a unique appearance. Originally native to the cloud forests of Brazil, the Christmas Cactus thrives in humid environments and is often passed down through generations as a cherished holiday decoration.

Care & Growing Condition:

  • Light: Prefer bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves. A spot near a north or east-facing window is ideal.

  • Water: Water when the soil dry between watering. During the blooming period (usually late fall to early winter), increase humidity and keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy.

  • Humidity: Christmas Cactus enjoys higher humidity levels. Consider placing the plant on a pebble tray with water or misting it regularly.

  • Soil: Ideal temperatures range from 60°F to 70°F (15°C to 21°C). Avoid exposure to cold drafts or extreme temperature changes.

  • Fertilizer: Fertilize every 2-4 weeks with a diluted, balanced fertilizer during the growing season (spring to early summer). Avoid fertilizing during the blooming period.

  • Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix, such as one designed for succulents or cacti.

  • Pruning: After the flowering period, you can prune the plant to encourage bushier growth and remove any dead or damaged segments.

  • Propagation: Christmas Cactus can be propagated from leaf cuttings. Allow cut ends to callous for a few hours before planting them in soil.
