Dendrobium orchids are part of the Dendrobiinae subfamily and are known for their stunning, diverse flowers and unique growth habits. These epiphytic orchids are native to tropical regions of Asia and Australia. They typically feature upright, cane-like stems that can reach several feet in height, producing beautiful blooms that come in various colors, including white, yellow, pink, and purple.

The flowers are often fragrant and can last several weeks, making them popular for both indoor and outdoor gardens. Dendrobium orchids can be categorized into several types, each with unique characteristics and flowering patterns. They are generally easy to grow but require specific care to thrive.

Care & Growing Condition:

  • Light: Dendrobium orchids prefer bright, indirect sunlight. A place near an east or west-facing window is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

  • Water: Water your Dendrobium orchid thoroughly when the top inch of the potting medium feels dry.

  • Humidity: Dendrobium orchids prefer humidity levels of 40% to 70%.

  • Fertilizer: Use a balanced orchid fertilizer (30-10-10) every 2 weeks during the growing season.

  • Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years or when the plant outgrows its pot. Use a well-draining potting mix, preferably one designed for houseplants.

  • Pests/Diseases: Watch for common pests such as spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs. If infestations occur, treat the plant with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
